Tour our Recycling Plant

Ever wonder what happens to the recyclables collected on our campus? Their first stop is a Materials Recycling Facility in Westborough. Join us to see how the facility processes thousands of tons of recyclables each month. We have a strict limit of 10 guests for this trip, so please contact Kortni.Wroten@umassmed.edu  ASAP if you would like to attend. Transportation via electric van is provided.

Drive-up Home Electronics Recycling Collection

The ever-popular home electronics recycling event will take place in the Biotech 5 parking lot. Bring your home electronic devices and appliances. There will be fees for several items including TVs or computer monitors of any kind. Fees must be paid by check or cash only. See here for items accepted and fees.

Wellness Fair & Smoothie Bike

Come see the sustainability table at the Office of Well-being’s Wellness Fair at the Albert Sherman Center Cafe. 

Learn about recycling, sustainability myths, and sustainable wellness tips!

Try out the Smoothie Bike and enjoy a free smoothie and fresh-pressed juice, which will be offered from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. (Thanks, NexDine!)



Saturday, April 13  9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Working for Worcester- City View STEAM Lab

Help community volunteers at City View Elementary School in Worcester build a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) lab! Tasks involve building chairs, stools, and tables, rearranging STEAM supplies, and assembly of teacher's area.
Where: 80 Prospect Street, Worcester
Volunteer PTO is not applicable for this event, due to it taking place on a weekend. However, registration is required.

Wednesday, April 17  10 a.m. to 12 noon 

Lake Park- Community Cleanup

This event is in partnership with the Regional Environmental Council and UMass Chan's Sustainability Office. Tasks include cleaning up trash and debris around the park and Lake View school and getting the school garden ready for spring. Transportation from campus to Lake Park will be provided. Volunteers will meet in the lobby of the Albert Sherman Center for a shuttle ride to the park. Volunteer PTO is available with prior supervisor approval.

Outdoor Yoga Series Begins

This is the perfect opportunity to explore mindfulness, as we look for ways to give back to our life-sustaining planet. This is a special chance to develop lasting rituals in your yoga practice and in your life that nurture an eco-centric approach to everyday living and that have the potential to last all year round. Learn about UMass Chan Office of Sustainability’s efforts to make a more sustainable campus! Seed Share Fair 

The UMass Chan Pollination Association and the Community Garden Club are hosting a Seed Share Fair. If you have some, please bring extra seeds to share with your fellow gardeners at UMass Chan with short growing instructions or the original packet.  Small envelopes will be provided to help distribute seeds. If you don’t have seeds this year, come take some home with growing instructions and with a good harvest, you’ll be able to share seeds next year. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, everyone is welcome to participate, take home some seeds, and learn how to cultivate a greener future together.
