Eleonora D'Ambrosio, MD

Meet Eleonora D'Ambrosio, MD, assistant professor of neurology, supporting both neurology and gene therapy. Dr. D’Ambrosio has been a long-time member of our community. She originally joined our department as a research assistant in 2016, in Miguel Sena-Esteves gene therapy lab. She went on to complete her neurology residency at UMass Chan, before moving to Brigham – Mass General in Boston to complete a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine, and another in gene therapy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  

These days, Dr. D’Ambrosio is most likely to be found in the Translational Institute of Molecular Therapeutics (TiMT) or in the Neuromuscular Clinic. Her research interests include gene therapy approaches for rare diseases. She is also interested in muscular dystrophies, congenital myopathies, and ALS. She hails from Rome, Italy, and shares her inspiration, “The ALS patients I saw in Italy as a student drove my decision to focus on neurology and neuromuscular medicine. My first lab experience here in the Esteves lab inspired my choice of focusing on genetic diseases therapy development, from bench to bedside. I began my professional experience as a research assistant in 2016, and now I am back where everything started.”
