UMass Chan Earns Climate 'Mark of Distinction'

UMass Chan Medical School has been recognized for its ongoing commitment to adapt operations for long-term environmental benefits.

With myriad energy efficiency and sustainability efforts, and a firm belief in leading by example, UMass Chan Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins recently re-affirmed the institution’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Chancellor Collins joined with academic, corporate, state and municipal leaders by declaring they would not walk away from the spirit nor the letter of the Paris Climate Agreement.

For this leadership, UMass Chan was awarded a “Mark of Distinction” in April from Second Nature, a non-profit group that coordinates a range of sustainability initiatives including the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), of which the University of Massachusetts is a signatory. Among the measurable improvements made in recent years, UMass Chan has increased recycling rates on campus and reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its co-generation power plant. Read more about some of the initiatives here:
