Elective Description: This elective will offer 4th year students an opportunity to participate in the care of patients in a busy community Emergency Dept. (130 patients per day average). Students will evaluate patients and then develop a diagnostic and treatment plan under the guidance of an emergency physician. They will also perform certain procedures with supervision (including suturing, splinting, foreign body removal, I & D, cautery, LP and CPR). In addition to reviewing each patient with an emergency physician, the student may also arrange case reviews and informal teaching sessions. |
