A study published in JAMA Dermatology and co-authored by Peter Chai, MD, a fellow in medical toxicology at UMass Medical School, explores the use of Google Glass for dermatology consults in an emergency room setting, according to an April 17 story in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
Dr. Chai explains in the story how Google Glass—a tiny computer with an optical, head-mounted display—can help deliver better care to patients in the emergency room who need to see specialists.
“The traditional tele-medical devices are all big carts with computers, or laptops at the very least, where you have to roll it in front of the patient, plug it in, you've got to log on, do all that stuff,” said Chai. “In a busy ER, sometimes you just don't have time to do that.”
Chai is currently studying the use of Google Glass for toxicology consults.
