This clerkship will explore the many facets of trauma and injury prevention--from community interventions to public policy change. Students will participate in a regional trauma conference, community-based injury prevention programs including a car seat safety checkpoint, two teen driving programs, a 'Home Safely Program' at neighborhood health centers, and lectures by the Chiefs of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to shadow for rounds in the Pediatric ED, the Adult Trauma and Pediatric Trauma Units. This clerkship requires one Saturday program, with compensating time off during the week.
